Malaysia: Malaysia Special Panel on Disaster Response Set-up: Najib


 Kuala Lumpur: Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak on December 30 Monday announced that a special committee had been set up to work out emergency response procedures in facing natural disasters. The Prime Minister did not name the committee but said it was a precautionary measure when dealing with natural disasters such as the recent floods that struck several states. In his latest post on his Facebook account, Najib also recorded his appreciation to all those who had extended relief aid to the flood victims. He also referred to the current floods in Sarawak and prayed for God to ease the burden on those affected.

Malaysia: MPK Forms Squad for Better Response to Emergencies and Disasters


Klang: The Klang Municipal Council (MPK) has formed the Hot Squad, comprising its enforcement unit and various other government agencies to handle any form of natural disasters better. The Hot Squad is made up of personnel from the council enforcement, the police, Fire and Rescue Services Department, Rela and the Klang district office. Council president Mohammad Yacob said the council would lead the squad, which was initiated following the state government’s directive to all local authorities to form a 10-men squad, to handle disasters such as floods.

Malaysia: Extra Ambulances on Standby


George Town: The Malaysian Red Crescent Society Penang branch is providing 24-hour ambulance services during the festive period. Until Feb 3, 11 ambulances and 150 paramedics will be reserved for emergency cases, especially accidents.Chairman Datuk Yeang Beng Jong said the ambulances will be based in Permatang Tinggi, Jalan Raja Uda on the mainland and Batu Maung on the island during the day and will be on standby mode at the Red Cresent headquarters after 7pm.

Malaysia: Health Ministry Approves RM 1 Million to Upgrade HTAJ


Sabak Bernam: The Health Ministry, on January 30, approved an allocation of RM1 to the Tengku Ampuan Jemaah Hospital (HTAJ), here for upgrading and to buy medical equipment. "The ministry also has plans to expand the outpatient clinic and emergency department because the current space cannot cater for the increasing number of patients every day," Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr S. Subramaniam said here, January 30. Meanwhile, Subramaniam clarified that his statement that health clinics would be open until 10pm to overcome congestion at emergency and trauma department of government hospitals, applied only to Selangor and Federal Territori

Malaysia: Patients Calling for Faster Treatment at Emergency Rooms


Petaling Jaya: Tired of the long wait, patients are calling for faster treatment at emergency rooms. At the Kuala Lumpur Hospital, car accident victim Fifi, 24, complained he was left unattended for almost an hour. “My head is bleeding and I am feeling so faint I cannot even stand up. “Whether our injuries are critical or not, accident victims should be treated immediately,” he said.
