India: AP Govt to Spend Rs 700 cr for SDRF Modernisation: Deputy CM


Visakhapatnam: In an effort to modernise State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) to tackle situation of an emergency, the Andhra Pradesh government will spend Rs 700 crore in the SDRF, Deputy Chief Minister N Chinarajappa said on August 30.\r\n\"The state government will spend nearly Rs 700 crore to modernise the SDRF in a bid to make rescue and relief operations as quickly as possible during emergencies like deluge, cyclone, and blasts,\" Chinarajappa, who also holds Disaster Management portfolio, told a press conference here.

India: Ambulance Drivers at Risk as BMC-Run Hospitals Fail to Provide Even Masks


With at least 2,598 people having tested positive for swine flu in the city this year and over 43 deaths taking place, the lack of safety measures taken by tertiary care hospitals (which providing specialised treatment and specialists) to protect health workers is worrying.\r\nAmbulance drivers, for instance, have been ferrying H1N1 positive patients between the Kasturba, Sion, Nair and KEM Hospitals, but nothing has allegedly been done to ensure that they do not catch the infection because of sharing space with the patients.

India: 13 Life-saving Equipment for Prison Hospitals


Chennai: The Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa on Tuesday(September 1) announced that 13 life-saving medical equipment including oxygen flow meter, trolley, multi-channel monitor and ventilator would be given to the 13 hospitals and 30 ambulances in 9 central prisons, 3 women jails, a Borstal school and district prison costing Rs.2.30 crore. This would help treat prisons inmates.
