India: Health: Department Distributes First-Aid Kits among Street Vendors, Auto Drivers


Patiala: To provide quick relief for victims of road accidents, the Health Department has started a special campaign from the city by distributing first-aid kits among street vendors working by the roadsides.\r\nHealth Department officials also distributed the kits among auto-rickshaw and rickshaw drivers. The campaign has been started in association with Jerath Path Labs. Director, Health and Family Welfare, Punjab, Dr Rajiv Bhalla, started the drive by distributing the kits among the vendors.

India: New Trauma Care System for MCH


Thiruvananthapuram: New and sophisticated trauma care and management system on the lines of the trauma management centre at the All India Institute for Medical Sciences (AIIMS) will become functional within six months at the Government Medical College Hospital (MCH) here, Health Minister K K Shylaja has said.\r\nLevel 1 trauma care, to be provided by tertiary-care level institutions, is being readied at MCH. A department in Emergency Medicine is also being started at the MCH, Ms Shylaja said, while on a visit to the new casualty block being readied at the MCH on Tuesday (22 August).

India: HP Awaits Nod to Set-up 9 Trauma Centres


Shimla: Himachal Pradesh is awaiting the Central Government’s approval to set up nine trauma centres in the State, Health Minister Kaul Singh informed the Assembly on 22 August.\r\n“The establishment of trauma centre needs approval of the government of India. The state action plan for the emergency care via trauma care facilities in nine health institutions has been taken up with the government of India and approval is awaited,” he said in a written reply.

India: Ambulance service for tribal people in Edamalakudy, Kerala


Kottayam: Ashraya, a charity, has dedicated an ambulance for tribal population of Edamalakudy offering free services 24X7. Their ailing members and pregnant women were being carried to the hospital manually through the Munnar forest reserve covering the entire distance of more than 40 km, till Pettimudy, the nearest vehicle point. \"The ambulance will be available for them full time,\" a trust official, A.V. Sasi, told DC.

India: App to help ambulances cut response time


Chennai: Taking a leaf out of cab aggregators, who use GPS-based mobile apps to reach customers in double quick time, the Tamil Nadu government has installed an app-based system in its ambulances to keep response time short.\r\nIn emergency situations, even a 10 to 12 minute delay in the arrival of ambulance may mean death. Now \'108\' ambulance services will have an app which can track the accident spot in no time and help reduce the average response time to three minutes, say TNHSP officials.
