Israel: Needy Holocaust Survivors Unaware of Fund that Covers Ambulance Costs


On the eve of Holocaust Remembrance Day, Magen David Adom took the opportunity to remind the public of the organization’s special fund, dedicated to covering the costs of ambulance services for needy Holocaust survivors.\r\nThe MDA fund, initiated four years ago, assists patients in cases that are not paid for by the four public health funds, insurance companies or the National Insurance Institute. Although, tens of thousands of aging survivors have been helped since the fund was established, many of those who meet the criteria to receive assistance are still unaware of the service.

Israel: MDA offers GPS System to Follow Ambulance Location until it Arrives


Magen David Adom has, via global positioning systems (GPS), made it possible for those who call for an ambulance to follow with a cellular phone its movements until arrival. MDA said it was the “first ambulance service in the world” to offer such a thing and called it a “breakthrough.”\r\nThe service will be available free and be updated in real time. A link will be sent to the phone that can be clicked to show a map and the location of the ambulance, from the moment it leaves the station until it reaches its destination.

Israel: Masters of disaster, IDF Field Hospital May Be Recognized as WorldĄŻs Best World Health Organization


Israel’s military field hospital, regularly dispatched to disaster zones to provide humanitarian relief - and to win the Jewish state some rare international brownie points - may soon be awarded the World Health Organization’s highest ranking, which would make it the first in the world to be so recognized.\r\nIn 2013, the United Nation’s WHO created a set of criteria to classify foreign medical teams in sudden onset disasters, on a scale from one to three.

Israel: UN Peacekeepers Turn to IDF for Emergency Training


United Nations peacekeepers will take part in a special seminar in Israel led by the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) and leading civilian medical professionals.\r\nThe seminar, which grew out of a discussion on improving cooperation between Israel and the U.N., will focus on emergency medicine and providing first response medical personnel in conflict zones throughout the world. Israel is frequently one of the first countries to respond to worldwide humanitarian efforts by sending missions to disaster zones with recent examples including Haiti, the Philippines and Nepal.
