China: Mobile Apps Issued to Popularize First-aid Knowledge


The Red Cross Society of China (RCSC) on November 3 Sunday released a set of mobile phone application to popularize first-aid knowledge and skill in China. The application, developed by the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, has been introduced to many countries including China, said Zhao Baige, executive vice-president of the RCSC, at the unveiling ceremony.  Mobile phone users can learn knowledge on first-aid, emergency and disaster-prevention, methods for self-rescue and mutual-rescue through the application, especially when people are in critical conditions, according to Zhao.

China: Shanghai's First Fire Helicopter to Serve in 2014


Shanghai's first professional fire helicopter will come into service in mid 2014, announced fire authorities on November 8 Friday. The Russian-made Ka-32 civilian helicopter is under its final assembly and commissioning. It will be delivered to the metropolis in January next year, said Zhao Zixin, chief of the Shanghai Fire Department. At that point, Shanghai will set up an air fire crew to conduct emergency rescue and firefighting missions concerning tall buildings, high-speed rail and viaducts, he explained. China: Chinese and US troops in Hawaii for Joint Drill


Chinese and US troops initiated a joint humanitarian aid and disaster relief exercise in Hawaii on Tuesday, November 12. The 3-day joint drill, which marks the first time for China to send its troops to US territory, focuses on providing emergency aid in a third country presumably hit by a devastating earthquake. According to China's Ministry of National Defense, the drill -- incorporating the three major subjects of weapon demonstration, technique exchange and cooperative action -- covers fundamental missions such as retrieving survivors, navigating through narrow passages and providing medical aid at high-altitudes.

China: China Sends Medical Team to the Philippines


The first of Chinese rescue and medical team has left for the typhoon-stricken Philippines. The crew is from the Red Cross Society of China, and will be deployed in the city of Tacloban, which was hit the hardest, to help survivors. 17 aid workers from China’s Red Cross are setting off for the Philippines to help typhoon survivors. China: Schools to be Furnished with Emergency Rescue Facilities


Shanghai: The standing committee of the Shanghai Municipal People's Congress recently made a decision to amend the law governing the protection of minors. Other articles are directed at schools. Schools are required to develop contingency plans for emergencies, be furnished with emergency rescue equipment and facilities, educate students about how to respond in an emergency, and carry out regular safety drills. The students who died suddenly from congenital disorders did not receive timely medical treatment from school staff before paramedics arrived. In this regard, the amendments to the law are necessary
