Sri Lanka: National Stroke Center to be Established in Mulleriyawa Hospital


Colombo: Sri Lanka\'s Minister of Health, Nutrition and Indigenous Medicine, Dr Rajitha Senaratne has said that measures have been taken to establish the National Stroke Center in the Mulleriyawa hospital.\r\nMinister Senaratne has disclosed this participating as the Chief Guest in an event held to launch the register of stroke patients in Sri Lanka recently at the Colombo National Hospital.

Sri Lanka: Mobitel Launches SCOPE Hotline in Partnership with the Perinatal Society of Sri Lanka


The hotline will be particularly helpful for medical staff in remote areas, for example, when a doctor in the periphery or a junior consultant encounters a difficult pregnant or new-born case. In this emergency context, he would need access to an expert on management or transfer of the patient before a critical situation arises. On dialling the dedicated hotline SCOPE, the Interactive Voice Response (IVR) system will lead the caller to the required specialty (paediatricians, obstetricians, and community physicians) from anywhere in the island.

Taiwan: Taipei Improves Emergency Response with GIS


Taipei: In a bid to improve the city’s emergency response capability, the Taipei City Fire Department developed a GIS-based Incident Command System which will provide first responders with critical information needed to efficiently carry out rescue operations. The system provides a user-friendly interface which integrates spatial information crucial for the city’s Emergency Dispatch Centre to manage and mobilise rescue operations. This includes information derived from digital maps, building and block maps, aerial photographs and water resource maps among others.

Taiwan: Taiwan Takes Step to Combat H7N9, Sets-up Emergency Response Team


Taipei, April 24 (CNA) Taiwan's Department of Health (DOH) on April 24 Wednesday outlined a series of measures to combat the deadly H7N9 avian flu, after a Taiwanese man who returned from a visit to eastern China tested positive for the virus. The Ministry of National Defense (MND) has followed a directive by the epidemic command center to set up an emergency response team to assist in the national sanitization and disease prevention efforts, according to MND spokesman Major General Luo Shou-he.

Taiwan: Automated External Defibrillator Program set to be expanded


The Department of Health (DOH) is stepping up its plan to make automated external defibrillators (AED) available in public places nationwide, hoping to install 44 of the devices per every 100,000 people by 2015. Promoting the plan at a news conference at Taipei Railway Station yesterday, Department of Health Minister Chiu Wen-ta (邱文達) said the automated defibrillators were easy to operate and could help save lives. Equipping domestic ambulances with AEDs has already improved survival rates for people who suffer sudden heart attacks in Taiwan to 5 percent from less than 1 percent, he said.
