India: State Police to Modernize its Disaster Response Force


Jaipur: In an effort to be self-sufficient during any disaster or emergency situations like bomb blast, Rajasthan police is all set to modernize its state disaster response force (SDRF) which will work on the lines of national disaster response force (NDRF). The force is likely to procure gadgets used for detecting and identifying chemicals used in bombs and will also get some medical equipment. According to sources, the procurement of modern gadgets will cost nearly Rs 4 crore and within six months, the police headquarters will get delivery of items. India: Maha Cabinet Approves Amravati Airport Upgrade Plan, Heli-Ambulance will not be Charged


Mumbai: On February 18 Cabinet approved the proposal for expansion of an airport at Amravati by deciding to hand over 336 hectares land to the Airports Authority of India (AAI).  The airport was earlier to be developed by the Maharashtra Airport Development Company Ltd (MADC).  State government's flights, helicopters, heli-ambulances and emergency operations will not be charged for landing and there will be no commercial use of the land.

India: 108 Ambulance Service Soon be Started in Jharkhand


Ranchi: Finance minister Rajendra Prasad Singh on February 21 presented a budget worth Rs 50,386.70 crore for the financial year 2014-15 in the Jharkhand Assembly on February 21 Friday. Singh said the state government had planned to open new medical and nursing colleges in the state on the Public Private Partnership mode. Land will be allocated as per requirement, he said. Emergency ambulance service with the telephone number 108 and health information helpline number 104 will soon be started in the state. The state contribution to the Janani Suraksha scheme will be doubled, the finance minister said.

India: JK Govt to Set Up 4 EOCs for Effective Disaster Response


Jammu: The Jammu and Kashmir government will set up four Emergency Operations Centers (EOCs) in the state to ensure quick and immediate response to any disaster. Four EOCs will be established in Leh, Kargil, Srinagar and Jammu districts and Rs 8 crore have been earmarked for this, minister of State for Revenue, Relief and Rehabilitation Ajaz Ahmed Khan said in the Legislative Council.  Replying to a discussion, he said the centers will have 24 x 7 helplines manned by adequate staff and equipped with rescue and relief equipment.  The minister said Rs 18 crore have been sanctioned for purchasing equipme
