	Kuala Lumpur: The Health Ministry will issue 500 ambulance vans to hospitals nationwide this year. Deputy Minister of Health Datuk Seri Dr Hilmi Yahaya said the 500 units would be distributed in phases to replace damaged ambulances. “We have given 200 units nationwide but it was still insufficient, most ambulances are 10 to 15 years old and frequently used on the uneven roads of Sabah and Sarawak which contributed to extensive wear and tear,” he said after officiating the fifth ‘Bubur Lambuk’ distribution programme by Maha Mas Medic Services Sdn Bhd (Mahamas Ambulance) at the Kuala Lumpur General Hospital.

	Malaysia: Drivers Who Abuse Emergency Lane will be hauled to Court
	Kuala Lumpur: Drivers who are caught abusing the emergency lane will now be brought straight to court instead of being able to pay a small fine for the offense.\r\nRoad Transport Department (JPJ) enforcement director Datuk Valluvan Veloo said the no-nonsense approach was an attempt to change drivers\' attitudes.\"Since May, all drivers who are caught abusing the emergency lane by JPJ or reported by the public will be brought straight to court,\" Valluvan said in a press conference on June 29.

	Malaysia: Search-and-rescue NGO launches all-terrain ambulance
	Kuala Lumpur: Malaysian Volunteer Fire and Rescue Association, which provides professional search and rescue operations, has launched the country’s first off-road ambulance.\r\nMalaysian Volunteer Fire and Rescue Association (MVFRA) founder and safety activist K Balasupramaniam said the specially-built vehicles are meant to overcome emergency situations, such as landslides and floods, among others.“This ambulance is mainly to deal with earthquakes, landslides and floods. 	Malaysia: Malaysia Still Short of 900 Emergency Medicine Specialists
	Malaysia is still short of 900 emergency medicine specialists to be able to meet the needs of increasing number of patients in the country, according to Deputy Health Minister Dr Hilmi Yahaya. He said, at present, only 300 emergency medicine specialists are available nationwide.\r\n\"An average of 200 people apply each year to become emergency medicine specialists, but only 60 will be selected as only three public universities in the country - Universiti Sains Malaysia, Universiti Malaya and Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia - are offering the course.

	Malaysia: 51 Drivers Fined for Using Emergency Lane at North-South Expressway
	Melaka: Fifty one drivers caught using the emergency lane at KM222 of the North-South Expressway in May were found guilty and imposed with a total fine of RM75,100 by the court.\r\nMelaka Road Transport Department (RTD) director Mohd Fadhil Hassan said all of them were fined up to RM 2,000 at the trial on July 18, July 27, Aug 1 and Aug 8 by the Alor Gajah Magistrate\'s Court near here.
