Philippines: Medical Team Ready for Action at the International Triathlon Event
Dr. Peter Mancao, the medical director for the Cobra Iron Man 70.3 Philippines, said everything’s set for the race slated to start on August 4. Mancao said medical response teams are ready for the international triathlon event set to start and end at the Shangri-La’s Mactan Resort and Spa. “It’s all systems go for us,” said Mancao. “Everything’s set up and ready for deployment. Philippines: Defense Office Orients Volunteers on Emergency Preparedness
Catbalogan City: The Office of the Civil Defense (OCD) oriented Catbalogan City volunteers for the local coordinating body known as the Systematic Technical Emergency Preparedness–Unified Program (STEP–UP). USAR is described as a multi-hazard discipline involving the location, extrication and initial medical stabilization of victims trapped in confined spaces due to natural disasters, structural collapse, transportation accidents, and mines and collapsed trenches. Philippines: Red Cross Trains Students on Basic Life Support
Tuguegarao City: The Philippine Red Cross (PRC) has conducted a series of trainings to different tertiary schools here to equip students with basic life support and first aid. Gerwin Espejo, PRC trainer, stated that the knowledge of knowing the basic life support is very essential in times of emergencies, especially to students who go from home to school. “Emergencies may happen anytime and anywhere. Philippines: DBM OKs P2.8-B for New Hospitals, Health Centers
Manila: The Department of Budget and Management has released P2.8-B to the Department of Public Works and Highways for the construction, renovation and upgrade of hospitals and rural health centers across the country. In particular, the program hopes to provide emergency obstetric and newborn care services to barangay health stations and regional health units.

Philippines: Disaster Response Group Refurbishes Junk Vehicles
Baguio: Volunteer rescue group 911 On Call recently showed to the Baguio City Government that equipment often considered as junk can still be used if only given a little tinkering. The volunteer group showed the newly refurbished towing truck and ambulance of the City Government during City Hall’s flag raising program on August 5 Monday. The truck will be used by 911 On Call in its various rescue and emergency response activities.
