Taiwan: DOH Setting Up Databank of Defibrillator Locations


Taipei, July 13 (CNA) The Department of Health (DOH) has said that it is setting up a databank showing all the locations of automated external defibrillators (AEDs). DOH statistics show that heart disease is the second-leading cause of death in Taiwan. Every year, around 20,000 people who have heart attacks die before reaching the hospital, the DOH noted. Taiwan has completed an amendment to the Emergency Medical Services Act stipulating that public places should be equipped with AEDs and incorporating a Good Samaritan law -- which protects people who perform emergency treatment from lawsuits -- to encourage people to use the AEDs when neces

Taiwan: Inappropriate Use of Ambulance Service Results in NT$1,700 Fine


Taipei:  A 70-year-old man was fined NT$1,700, on July 17, for inappropriate use of the ambulance service, according to the Fire Department of the Kaohsiung City Government (FDKC).The Kaohsiung City Ambulance Payment Policy took effect on July 1 as part of an effort to eliminate abuse of government medical resources. Taiwan: Taiwan to Hire 9,000 Additional Nurses by 2016: President


Taipei: President Ma Ying-jeou said November 12 Tuesday that the government is aiming to increase the number of nurses in Taiwan by 9,200 over the next two years, as part of its efforts to deal with the shortage of nursing staff in the country. Of the 9,200 additional nurses expected to be working by 2016, 200 will be posted in remote areas of the county, the president said at a Doctors' Day celebration.

Taiwan: Hospital on Taiping Island Offers Help Regardless of Nationality


Taipei: Dec. 3 (CNA) A hospital on the largest island of the Spratly island chain in the South China Sea is prepared to offer emergency medical services to foreign as well as Taiwanese fishermen operating in the area, Taiwan's Coast Guard Administration (CGA) said on December 03 Tuesday. Nansha Hospital even has placards written in Tagalog and Vietnamese in case sailors who need medical help cannot speak English or Chinese, said military physician Huang Hsin-hung, who made the comments through the CGA.

Taiwan: Taiwan Records over 40 Sudden Deaths as Cold Front Hits


Taipei: Taiwan has recorded more than 40 cases of sudden death since a cold front began affecting the island Feb. 8. Statistics from fire departments of major cities and counties around the island show that since that day, they had been called out to attend 10 sudden death cases in Taipei, while surrounding New Taipei reported 19 such deaths. Taoyuan County reported 4 deaths, and the emergency health care system in Taichung, central Taiwan, reported 10 fatalities, mostly caused by strokes and cardiovascular problems.
