India: PMO Favours Common SOS Helpline Number in 75 Cities


NEW DELHI: The Prime Minister's Office has asked the home ministry to extend the proposed common emergency number service to over 75 towns and cities in the country. The proposed helpline number, which will enable emergency service providers to pinpoint the location of the caller and provide quick assistance, will be common for the police, ambulance and fire services. India: Soon, a Single Emergency Number


New Delhi: New single emergency response system will have location-based services so that geographical location of caller up to an accuracy of 50-100 metres is traced. India is set to have a single response number for emergencies such as fire, ambulance and police calls, on the lines of the ‘911’ emergency number in the US and ‘112’ across most European Union countries. India: CAG Hauls up Tamil Nadu for Poor Disaster Management Systems


Chennai: If there is a natural calamity, say another tsunami, the state is just not equipped to handle it. A report of the Comptroller and Audit General of India, the premier auditing agency, which was tabled in the legislative assembly on May 15 Wednesday, said as much. "The emergency operation centres (EOCs) are not in a state of readiness. India: BEST (Bus service in Mumbai) Drivers Get CPR Training


Mumbai: Around 150 drivers and conductors from the BEST service were trained on recognizing signs of hypertension and ways to beat it. The workshop was organised by the Fortis Hospital in Mulund on the occasion of World Hypertension Day.  The participants of the workshop underwent physiotherapy sessions to battle stress.
