India: 24x7 Free Ambulance Service for Road Accidents


Dimapur: Altrura Society, Chumukedima started its free ambulance service fulltime on September 14. In view of increasing road accidents in Nagaland, the society officially launched the ambulance service on July 6 with Parliamentary Secretary for Urban Development Zhaleo Rio. A press release received here informed that with regard to the ambulance service, the society members also had special training on first-aid at Christian Institute of Health Sciences and Research (CIHSR), Dimapur. India: Emergency Response Training for Airport Staff


Mumbai: An emergency response training for employees of Airports Authority of India was held at Coimbatore Airport on September 14 Saturday by PSG Institute of Medical Sciences and Research’s Department of Emergency Medicine to mark the World First Aid Day. Showing a scene from the movie ‘Shivaji’ in which a CPR (Cardiopulmonary resuscitation) was performed to a boy, Prakash Mohanasundaram, President of Association of Emergency Physicians India (EPI), told the airport employees that this clipping has created an awareness among public on emergency response.

India: Accident Victim Compensation Must Factor in Trauma


Mumbai: The Bombay High Court has said that while deciding the quantum of compensation for an accident victim, even "non-pecuniary" damage such as the pain and the trauma must be considered. In a recent order, while increasing the compensation awarded to a scooter-rider who suffered 55 per cent disability due to an accident, Justice A P Bhangale said the aim should be to "restore the victim to pre-accident position".

India: Maharashtra Finally Clears Victim Compensation Scheme


Pune: The state cabinet on Wednesday finally approved a scheme to compensate victims of crime, after years of procrastinating over a Supreme Court directive to have such a scheme in place, as well as the amendment to the Code of Criminal Procedure (Cr PC) in 2009 that mandated states to launch it. Called 'Manodhairya', the scheme will be implemented from October 2. As part of the scheme, the state would give monetary compensation in the range of Rs 2 lakh to Rs 3 lakh to victims of crime especially of rape, child sex abuse and acid attacks. India: On Fifth Anniversary, 108 Ambulance Service Gets 5-year Extension in TN


Chennai: Having saved more than 23 lakh lives in Tamil Nadu in five years, the 108 ambulance service has got a 5-year extension from the state government that funds it.  The service, which celebrated its fifth anniversary on September 19 Thursday, began in 2005 in Hyderabad with just 6 vehicles. The GVK EMRI-run service now has a fleet of 6,000 vehicles in 13 states and 2 Union territories.
