India: Life-saver Chopper Ambulances May Get Green Light to Land Even on Roads


New Delhi: More lives may be saved in the golden hour after an accident as the government is working on an ambitious plan to allow helicopter ambulances to land anywhere near an accident spot — be it a national highway or a sports ground.\r\nThe Directorate-General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has proposed allowing air ambulances, to be known as Helicopter Emergency Medical Services (HEMS), to land at accident and emergency sites without operational clearance. An inter-ministerial panel with officials from the Ministries of Home, Defence, Road Transport and Highways and Telecom, among others, will soon be formed to work out the modalities.

India: Shripad Assures More Ambulances as per Need


Bicholim: Union Minister of State for AYUSH (independent charge) Shripad Naik has said that  the Centre has decided to adopt ayurvedic  system  for treating various diseases and that a provision of Rs   500 crore  has been made for the scheme. He was speaking as the chief guest at Bicholim Primary Health Centre (PHC) while handing over ambulance keys to the PHC management, on Friday (June 17).\r\nThe new ambulance for the PHC has been provided under MPLAD scheme, under which so far 11 ambulances have been provided to the PHCs and hospital in North Goa and more ambulances will be provided under the scheme dependin

India: ANF Personnel Get Training in First Aid


Manipal: As many as 80 police personnel of the Anti-Naxalite Force (ANF) took part in a first-aid training workshop conducted by Melaka Manipal Medical College, a constituent of Manipal University, here on Thursday (June 23)\r\nThey were provided training in responding to situations like snakebite, heart attack, gunshot injury, basic life support, said a press release. H. Vinod Bhat, Vice-Chancellor of Manipal University inaugurated the workshop. Annamalai K., Superintendent of Police, who was instrumental in the organisation of this workshop also spoke on the occasion.

India: ICU¡¯s On Highways for Accident Victims


Hyderabad: Ending years’ long ordeal of the road accident victims on highways, the health department has approved starting 25 intensive care units (ICUs) in the state at a cost of around `1.5 crore for each unit.\r\nThe sources said that each ICU will have three doctors and six nurses, besides regular staff. “We will recruit doctors and nurses for these ICUs soon,” an official said.

India: Set Benchmark for Ambulances, SC Tells Centre


New Delhi: The Supreme Court today directed the Centre to immediately set a benchmark for ambulances, listing all mandatory facilities required in such vehicles.\r\nA Bench headed by Chief Justice TS Thakur said in the absence of standardisation, people were getting trucks and vans registered as ambulances to avail duty exemptions and were operating these as medical emergency vehicles without necessary facilities. The only thing that made these vehicles ambulances was the “red cross symbol” pasted on these, it said.
