India: How Motorcycle-Ambulances Are Saving Lives In Chhattisgarh Forests


Narayanpur, Chhattisgarh: When eight-months pregnant Sukmi’s water broke she was in Ongnarpal, a village deep in the jungle of Chhattisgarh where four wheelers cannot reach and the hospital was miles away. However, help arrived in the form of a motorcycle ambulance and Sukmi made it to the hospital “just in time” and delivered a beautiful baby girl.\r\nThe motorcycle-ambulance is a new concept in India that is saving lives in remote regions where people had been dying because they could not make it to the hospital on time.

India: IMA Gears Up for Formidable Task of Imparting Training to Volunteers


Imparting basic life-saving skills to thousands of officials and volunteers, who are going to be present at the various bathing ghats, is the daunting task ahead of the Indian Medical Association (IMA) in the coming few days. IMA Vijayawada chapter secretary M. India: Andhra Pradesh Needs at Least 100 Trauma Centres: Official


Visakhapatnam: An analysis of the road accident data reveals that 1,374 accidents and 400 deaths take place in India every day. This translates into 57 accidents and 17 lives being lost on an average every hour in the country.\r\nA total of 24,258 road accidents left 8,297 dead and 29,439 injured in Andhra Pradesh in 2015. Vijayawada and Visakhapatnam cities reported 362 and 343 deaths on the roads in 1,644 and 1,637 road accidents respectively. This underlines the importance of having a well- established trauma care network.

India: AP Mulls Setting Up 19 Trauma Care Centres


Visakhapatnam: The TDP government is to set up 19 trauma care centres (TCCs) in the state. Andhra Pradesh already has 13 TCCs. The new centres are being set up with the aim of reducing the rate of fatality in road accidents to 15% in the next four years. As against the national average of 14.9%, the fatality rate in AP is as high as 22%.

India: Training lifeguards in saving lives


“Most of us know swimming. But we had not undergone formal training with regard to protecting the lives of victims in a swimming pool. After a 10-day formal training, we have learnt a lot on how to save lives,” Omkar Swamy, working as a lifeguard in a private swimming pool, said. Omkar Swamy was among the 40 trainees from Bidar, Kalaburagi, Hosapete and Ballari to undergo life-guard training. The free training was organised outside Bengaluru for the first time by the Department of Youth Empowerment and Sports, through the Pune-based Tarang Sports and Education Foundation, here.
