Malaysia: MOH Will Hire More Emergency Medicine Specialists


Kuala Lumpur: The Ministry of Health (MOH) will hire more emergency medicine specialists to treat accident victims and address the shortage of medical specialists at government hospitals. Malaysia: AG's Report: Improper Payments In MERS 999 Project


Kuala Lumpur: The monitoring committee set up to monitor the Malaysian Emergency Response Services (MERS) 999 project failed to administer the government contract resulting in improper payments amounting to RM13.54 million. The Auditor-General's 2012 Report tabled in Dewan Rakyat Tuesday said the Project Monitoring and Evaluation Committee (JPPP) had verified RM1.62 million compared to the cost in the Bill of Quantity amounting to RM1.08 million, resulting in an overpayment of RM0.54 million. Malaysia: Malaysia Launches Emergency Services App for the Physically Impaired


For people with speech and hearing impairments, emergency services are now just a click away thanks to a new mobile application called “SaveMe 999”. Developed by the Malaysian Emergency Response Services (MERS), the new mobile app uses the Global Position System (GPS) feature of smartphone s to identify the location of the caller. To use the application, users will be required to fill in their personal particulars such as name, details of disability and their next-of-kin’s contact details.

Malaysia: Malaysia 100 Medical Teams in 2 States to Treat Flood Victims


Chukai: The Health Ministry has dispatched about 100 forward medical teams (FMT) to Terengganu and Pahang to provide treatment to flood victims. Made up of doctors, nurses, medical assistants, health department’s volunteers, Armed Forces' Medical Corps and non-government organisations, the FMTs have been working round the clock since floods struck the east coast last week. Pahang Health Department director Datuk Dr Norhizan Ismail said it had deployed 67 mobile and static FMT teams, each comprising 2 doctors, a nurse and a medical assistant, in the 11 affected districts in the state.
