Pakistan: Heat Wave Claims Over 945 Lives in Karachi, State of Emergency Declared


Karachi: At least 945 people have died in the last 4 days as a result of a severe heat wave in Karachi, doctors and officials said Wednesday(June 24), with medics battling to treat patients as a state of emergency was declared in hospitals. 66 people have died in the past 4 days due to severe heat in other parts of the province.

Pakistan: Missing in Action: Hierarchy at Rescue 1122 Make Helpline Useless


Karachi: If you are having a heart attack, make sure the helpline you call is not Rescue 1122, a public rescue service rife with bureaucratic red tape.\r\nAny calls that the helpline receives for any medical emergency will be directed to the department’s higher officials before an ambulance can be dispatched. “Our hands are tied,” said the shift incharge at the rescue service, Mumtaz Ashraf. “We cannot do anything on our own. If a person is having a heart attack and they contact Rescue 1122, we won’t [be able to] help them out.”

Pakistan: First Responders: NHMP Training Staff in First-aid


The National Highways and Motorway Police (NHMP) Inspector General Muhammad Saleem Bhatti has asked officials trained in first aid to respond quickly to road emergencies and help save lives. This was the seventh batch, comprising 24 officials, to graduate from the course.\r\nThe motorway police are training its staff, which are often the first ones to respond to road accidents, in a bid to help save lives in case of road emergencies. Hitherto, the police have been relying on rescue services to tend to the injured.

According to detail, the college is aimed at providing first aid to the patients besides bringing improvement in the professional capabilities of the persons affiliated with healthcare.

Pakistan: 7,500 Rescuers to Remain on High Alert on Eid


Lahore: The Punjab Emergency Service (Rescue 1122) Emergency Ambulance, Rescue and Fire Services along with 7,500 rescuers will remain on emergency alert during Eid holidays in all the districts of Punjab to provide emergency services to the citizens.\r\nIn Rawalpindi, the Rescue 1122 staff will remain on special duties in district control room, emergency rescue stations, 14 equipped emergency ambulances, 10 fire vehicles, 2 rescue vehicles, 2 water bowsers, and 2 specialize vehicles.
