India: Emergency Response System Hits Roadblock


The Centre's proposal to introduce a single emergency response system across the country has run into problems, with the Ministry of Health expressing concern over linking the ambulances services in states with the facility. In the first phase, the project, E-9-1-1, aims to include cities with a population of over 5 lakh where all the emergency calls will be routed to the nearest public safety answering point automatically, indicating the location of the caller. India: Palanquin as Ambulance


Assam: Patients in remote places in Assam who cannot be reached with 108 Mrityunjoy ambulances will now be transported to the nearest ambulance point on a dola, or palanquin. A hundred such dolas have been attached to Mrityunjoy ambulances by the state government under the National Rural Health Mission. Health Minister Himant Biswa Sarma says this makes Assam the first state to have inducted dolas to transport patients.

India: 31 New Ambulances Flagged Off in Rajasthan


Jaipur: As many as 31 brand new ambulances under 108 emergency services were flagged off to replace equal number of scrapped ambulances in the state on August 19 Monday. The health department has started the process on August 19 Monday and replaced 31 ambulances which could not be repaired. Health minister AA Khanflagged off the new ambulances in Jaipur, which would be sent to 19 different districts of the state.An official of GVK-EMRI, a company recently roped in by health department to operate the ambulances, said, "All the ambulances will have basic life support system."

India: KaigaPower Plant to get Disaster Response Force


Panaji: In a bid to avert public fear and mistrust surrounding nuclear power plants, the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) will depute a 35-member State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) at the Kaiga nuclear power plant (NPP) near Karwar, around 22 km from Goa. The SDRF will comprise trained police personnel and will act as the first responder in emergency situations, while also functioning asPR machinery to build confidence in the people living within a 16 km radius of the sprawling power plant. India: State Set to Roll Out Emergency Medical Service from October 1


Pune: Come October and Maharashtra would be first state in the country where doctors would be on board ambulances that will have advanced life support systems. As part of the Rs 1,060-crore Emergency Medical Services (EMS), the response centre is getting ready at the district hospital in Aundh, Pune. The prototype of the ambulances are being tested at the city-based Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI) and the results will be out in September.
