Philippines: NDRRMC: DOH on Code White, Red Cross on alert for Dodong


The Department of Health went on Code White alert in preparation for Typhoon Dodong (Noul), the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management said on May 08.In its 6 a.m. update, the NDRRMC said the Philippine Red Cross has also placed on alert its units in areas likely to be affected by Dodong.For the DOH, a Code White requires that emergency service, nursing and administrative personnel residing at the hospital dormitory be on an on- call status for immediate mobilization.

Philippines: Roxas Inaugurates BUB-funded Hospital in Candaba


San Fernando city, Pampanga: Interior and Local Government Secretary Mar Roxas inaugurated May 14 the P32 million worth new municipal hospital of Candaba which was funded through the Bottom-up Budgeting (BUB) approach.Located in a 6.7-hectare property of the municipal government along Pansol road in barangay Pasig, the Level 1 or emergency hospital is fully equipped with modern facilities that would address the healthcare needs of its residents and those from nearby towns.

Philippines: NorthCot BFP Trains Emergency Responders on Firefighting Techniques


Kidapawan City, North Cotabato: With the objective of maintaining a fire-safe and fire-free community, the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) recently conducted a 3-day basic firefighting technique training with emergency responders.BFP Cotabato Provincial Fire Marshall Supt. Sambas D. Muhammad said a total of 50 personnel from the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Operations Center (PDRRMOC), its associate the North Cotabato Emergency Response Team (NCERT) and from the different departments of the Provincial Capital participated in the event.

Philippines: Disaster Management System in Davao to receive more Equipment


Davao City: A P545-million fund has been approved by the city council here to beef up the local government’s disaster management system through the procurement of additional equipment, manpower training and infrastructure improvement.“The budget of P500 million-plus is already available and part of it is made up of the balance from 2014 which we can use anytime,” said Councillor Danilo C Dayanghirang, chair of the committee on finance, ways and means.The fund falls under the Davao City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Fund Investment Plan for 2015, which will be divided into the key operation areas of the Davao City Ce

Philippines: Metro-wide Quake Drill Set on July 30


Manila: A metro-wide earthquake drill will be held on July 30 as part of the government’s preparations for a possible 7.2 magnitude tremor, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) said on May 27. The MMDA will hold a meeting with the 17 mayors in Metro Manila on June 2 to discuss preparations for the drill, MMDA Chairman Francis Tolentino said.Tolentino said that massive traffic jams would also be simulated as traffic lights would not function during the drill.He said emergency responders and ambulances would be on standby.MMDA will also hold a rescue Olympics on June 2 to assess the efficiency of rescue teams of local
