India: High Court Orders Opening of Trauma Centre in each District of Uttarakhand


Dehradun: The Uttarakhand High Court on 20 July (Friday) directed the state government to establish a trauma centre equipped with essential equipment in each district within a period of three months.\r\nIn its judgment, the Division Bench of Justice Rajiv Sharma and Justice Lok Pal Singh directed that the centres be established according to the Indian Public Health Standards norms.

Indonesia: Japanese Disaster Alert Technology to be Exported to Indonesia


Disaster-plagued Indonesia will become the first Southeast Asian country to employ an advanced Japanese early warning system for earthquakes and tsunami. Minister for Internal Affairs and Communications Yoshitaka Shindo of Japan and Indonesian Communications and Information Minister Tifatul Sembiring signed a bilateral cooperation document on April 29 that would create a system based on Japan’s domestic emergency warning system. Manufacturers such as NTT Data Corp. and Hitachi Ltd. will join the project to help in the creation of the system.

Indonesia: Indonesia Proposes Easier Mobility For Disaster Mitigation Personnel


Bandar Seri Begawan: During the East Asia Summit held here on October, urged Asean member countries to ease the mobility of disaster mitigation personnel as part of emergency response facilitation in the region. "This will increase the mobility of emergency response personnel after a disaster. Leaders from other countries welcomed the proposal," Indonesia's Antara news agency quoted President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono's Special Staff for the Economy and Development Affairs Firmanzah as saying here on October 24 Thursday.

Indonesia: Mt. Sinabung Eruption: Mass Evacuation and Crop Damage


Medan/Jakarta: Thousands of people have been forced to flee their homes in the Tanah Karo district of North Sumatra, following the eruption of Mount Sinabung on November 14 Thursday morning. It erupted again shortly before noon on the same day. The first eruption on November 14 Thursday happened at 6:57 a.m., sending volcanic ash to a height of 7,000 meters.
