	Philippines: MMDA Wants Consolidated Earthquake Plan for Metro Manila
	Manila: With the effects of a powerful quake expected to do widespread damage in Metro Manila, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) wants a consolidated disaster plan for local government units within the special region.Barangay officials from Metro Manila, Bulacan, Rizal, Cavite, and Laguna were also given survey forms to assess their preparedness for a possible disaster. The forms asked if the villages had their own disaster and evacuation plans, basic disaster tools and equipment, relief goods, early warning systems, and funds for calamities.

	Philippines: MMDA Needs 8,000 Quake Responders
	To ensure that there will be enough rescue personnel on hand should the “Big One” hit Metro Manila; the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) is looking for 8,000 volunteers to undergo a 3-day crash course on emergency response.During the agency’s Sunday (May 31) radio program, MMDA Chair Francis Tolentino said they were aiming to train free of charge an additional 8,000 people who would become part of the Metro Manila Rescue Volunteer core.At present, the agency has a 6,000-strong rescue team on top of 1,000 volunteers from local government units in the metropolis.

	Philippines: CDRRMO Sets Emergency Drills
	The city Government, through the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO), will conduct a series of emergency drills starting next week to better understand the city\'s preparedness in responding to disasters, both natural and human-induced.\r\nApolinario said the emergency drill was held in response to the directive from the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) encouraging local government units (LGUs) to hold drills in preparation for natural and man-made disasters.

	Philippines: Ambulances, Medical Booths in Manila on Independence Day
	Manila: The Philippines\' 117th Independence Day celebrations in different parts of the country are expected to draw large crowds on Friday (June 12). In Manila, the health department will deploy ambulances and set up medical booths to ensure the health and safety of those who will join the celebrations.\r\nTwo ambulances will be located at the perimeter of the Quirino Grandstand and the Luneta Park flag pole, according to Health Secretary Janette Garin. Each ambulance includes an emergency response team composed of 3 doctors, 3 nurses, and a team leader. They will be on standby on Friday(June 12) for 10 hours, starting 7 am to 5 pm.

	Philippines: Iloilo gets water ambulances from Italian shipping company
	Iloilo City: An Italian shipping company has donated $100,000 for the purchase of watercraft equipped as ambulances to deliver health and disaster relief services in Iloilo province.\r\nD’Amico Societa di Navigazione turned over the donation last week to nongovernment organization One Meal Program, headed by local philanthropist and businesswoman Maria Teresa Chan, which will implement the project.
