	Philippines: Smart ECBS Boosts NDRRMC Disaster Preparedness Efforts
	Cebu: THE Philippines’ disaster preparedness and response agency is now better equipped to send alerts to the public in times of calamities.PLDT wireless unit Smart Communications has turned over communications equipment to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC). This will allow NDRRMC access Smart’s Emergency Cell Broadcast System (ECBS) and use it to quickly send public warnings to mobile phone users in specific areas.

	The Makati City government has acquired 39 units of Automated External Defibrillators which will be used as first aid device in case of emergency for children, teachers and other personnel in public elementary and high schools in the city.Mayor Abigail Binay said her administration had seen fit to equip the schools with the portable device in line with its thrust of building resilient communities with empowered citizens who are capable of surviving and recovering from any adversity.

	Philippines: Mayor Angeles Pledges Ambulance to each of 76 Tarlac City villages
	Tarlac City Mayor Cristy Angeles has vowed to provide each of the 76 villages with one unit of ambulance. This was after the local chief executive recently distributed 10 units of ambulance to the 10 villages in the city.Angeles, in a recent turnover ceremony, said that the FB L300 ambulances were procured without incurring a loan. “All the city’s 76 barangays will be issued their own ambulances,” she said.

	In 2017, the Traffic Discipline Office Road Emergency Group of the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority operated 24 hours a day with the help of nine ambulances, a rescue van, seven tow trucks, handheld radios, and 131 heavy equipment operators ready to respond to emergencies on Edsa.

	San Jose, Antique: Workers from the various business establishments at the Business Park here learned several life protecting activities such as duck, cover and hold and emergency evacuation during the conduct of the second Quarter Nationwide Simultaneous Earthquake Drill.Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Officer Alex Crespo of San Jose town said the activity aims to test the preparedness level of the people at the Business Park in support to the government’s nationwide campaign for disaster preparedness.
