Japan: Emergency Medical Manuals Eyed ahead of 2020 Games


An academic consortium of 18 medical associations in Japan is aiming to draw up manuals by the end of this fiscal year on how to handle medical emergencies. The move is to prepare for terrorist attacks and other unexpected incidents that may occur during the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics.\r\nThe consortium includes the Japanese Association for Acute Medicine, the Japanese Association for The Surgery of Trauma (JAST) and the Japanese Society for Clinical Toxicology.

Japan: Truck Driver Arrested for Following Ambulance through Red Light


Tokyo: A truck driver who followed an ambulance through a red light in Tokyo on 16 July (Monday) has been arrested.According to police, the incident occurred at around 12:40 p.m. 16 July (Monday) along Meiji-dori, Fuji TV reported. The ambulance was responding to an emergency call and went through the red light. The truck driver, a man in his 20s, was closely following the ambulance and also went through the red light.

Korea (North): DPRK Strives to Prevent Spread of Bird Flu VrusUnder Direction of State Emergency Anti-Epidemic Committee.


The Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) was striving to prevent the spread of bird flu virus H5N1, the official KCNA news agency reported on May 20 Monday. More than 1,360 veterinary epidemic control teams were working throughout the country to monitor poultry and the movement of wild birds, the KCNA said. Measures like providing intensive hygienic information to inhabitants, as well as quarantining fowl, duck, pigeon and other domestic poultry, had been taken, it said. Preventive measures against H7N9 virus had also been taken under the direction of the State Emergency Anti-epidemic Committee, it said.

Korea (North): Doctors Go On Strike in Protest of Gov't Policy


Seoul: Thousands of doctors staged a 1-day strike March 10 Monday in protest of the government's plan to introduce a new medical system, partly causing inconveniences to patients across the country. The massive walkout by doctors, the first of its kind in 14 years, involves medical clinics, and interns and resident physicians working in hospitals around the country. "We oppose the government's plan to allow remote medical examinations and treatment, as well as for-profit hospitals, and can no longer stand the country's wrong health insurance and medical systems," the Korean Medical Association (KMA,) which represents 100,000 doctors around

Korea (North): Prank Emergency Callers Will Be Punished, Police Warns


Seoul: Prank 112 emergency calls are punishable under the law governing minor offenses, the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency warned on April 1, Tuesday. A spokesman said, "Police have to be dispatched to the scene of a reported crime even if the call is later revealed to be false. This is a serious issue because it wastes police efforts and may prevent people who are genuinely in need from getting immediate help." Prank calls will be punished with a fine or criminal prosecution for obstructing official business, he added.
