	Malaysia: Fire and Rescue Department Target 10-Minute Response Time
	Last year, the Fire and Rescue Department received over 80,000 emergency calls.\r\nIn only 44 percent of the cases did they manage to arrive at the scene within 10-minutes, which is the target which the department has set. Deputy director-general (Operations) Datuk Soiman Jahid said that there were many obstacles to firemen achieving their 10-minute maximum response time, in order to ensure there was minimal risk in terms of loss of lives or property. Firemen are often hampered from reaching the 10-minute response target owing to varying reasons.

	Malaysia: JPJ Issues Notices of Interview for Using Emergency Lane and Blocking Ambulance
	Melaka: The Road Transport Department (JPJ) has begun issuing notices of interview to vehicle owners detected to have used the emergency lane at KM228 of the North-South Expressway here, last Sunday (May 22).\r\nMelaka JPJ director Mohd Fadhil Hassan said vehicle owners receiving the notices had a grace period of two weeks to present themselves at the JPJ office for further investigation.

	Malaysia: Upgraded Labuan Hospital to have Ambulance Boat
	Labuan: The Labuan Nucleus Hospital has improved its services with additional facilities, equipment and specialists. Labuan Health Department director Dr Ismail Ali said the improvement was a follow-up action to the government’s call in upgrading the standard of medical care services.\r\n“We have improved our services since the last two years with additional medical care facilities and specialists, and we must not be complacent about what we have now, but continue to further improve the facilities to cater for the increasing demand,” he said during a dialogue with the media at the Labuan Nucleus Hospital on May 25.

	Malaysia: 114 Members Sit for National Level First Aid Competition
	MALAYSIAN Red Crescent Society (MRCS) members from all over Malaysia, some from as far as Sabah and Sarawak, came together to take part in a national-level first aid competition in Ipoh recently.\r\nThe 114 students who took part in the 3-day event sat for a written test and were further tested on bandaging and immobilisation, community first aid, and first aid simulation. Chung Bi Zhang, 17, from Sabah and taking part for first time in a national-level first aid competition, said it was an enjoyable experience although a tough one.

	Malaysia: Time to Regulate Ambulance Industry
	Kuala Lumpur: The government should regulate the mushrooming ambulance industry to ensure a standardised level of service for the benefit of the public. In making this call, Maha Mas Medic Services chief executive officer Abdul Saleem Said Mohamad said that the task of regulating the industry should be spearheaded by both the Ministry of Health (MoH) and the Land Public Transport Commission (SPAD).\r\nHe also said that at present, there are no regulations pertaining to the industry, which has been mushrooming over the years, with more private operators complementing government and non-governmental organisation ambulance services.
