India: Hospital Trains School Kids in CPR


Ahmedabad: Teachers and students of DPS, Bopal and St Kabir School were given first-hand training in cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR) to revive unconscious heart attack victims. The initiative was organized in memory of Sterling Hospital's eminent cardiologist Dr Shrenik Shah who died of a heart attack last year. A team of doctors from the hospital demonstrated and performed CPR at a session with around 60 students, making them aware of medical emergencies and their responsibility to save precious lives in such conditions.

India: State Disaster Management Keeps Track of 'Char Dham' Pilgrims


Having learnt a lesson or two from last year’s Uttarakhand tragedy, the disaster management department has roped in multiple government agencies this year in order to compile the complete data of pilgrims from the State embarking on the “Char DhamYatra”. Districts Collectors have been instructed to ensure registration of names and addresses of the pilgrims by the Village Revenue Officer concerned at the village level. India: Chopper, Air Ambulance for Maoist-Affected Areas


Varanasi: An Indian Army helicopter and an air ambulance have been made available to the police for the polling on May 12 Monday. The chopper for use to drop armed forces in remote areas of Maoist-affected Sonbhadra, Chandauli and Mirzapur districts in case of emergency. The air ambulance would be stationed at Babatpur airport.

India: Disaster management: Thiruvananthapuram Gears Up to Put Plan-B in Place


Thiruvananthapuram: The summer showers and the damage trail it left have served as an eye-opener for the city corporation. The civic body has submitted a detailed project proposal worth Rs 25 lakh to the district planning committee (DPC) specifically for disaster management. The corporation will also set up an Incident Response System (IRS) under the United Nations Development Programme through the city disaster management cell. 35-member team comprising select officials from the district administration, directorate of health services, state disaster response force, police, fire and rescue services, KWA and PWD will be trained as part of IR

India: RTA Fixes Ambulance Fares to Check Over-charging


Nagpur: In an effort to keep a check on private and NGO-run ambulance services from charging exorbitant rates, the Regional Transport Authority (RTA) has fixed fares for hiring ambulances in the city and outside corporation limits. The move follows a recent directive by the state transport commissioner to this effect. As per the newly-fixed tariff, hiring a Maruti Omni ambulance would cost Rs 400 for 0-25 km. For the same distance, a Tata Sumo ambulance would cost Rs 450, Winger ambulance Rs 500 and Tempo Traveller Rs 600.The RTA has also allowed increasing charges for air-conditioned ambulances by 10% of the fares declared by it.
