SINGAPORE: Deputy Prime Minister Teo Chee Hean touched on several priorities for his ministry for the year, namely crime, drugs and road safety.He told the House that Singapore's road fatality rate has come down in recent years.However, recent incidents underscore the need to improve road behaviour and eliminate reckless driving habits that put road users at risk.The ministry will invest more resources and mount a concerted effort to improve road safety through education, engagement and enforcement, and will focus its education efforts on vulnerable road users such as motorcyclists, children and elderly pedestrians.Other plans include engagin

Singapore: Schools to get 149 Defibrillators as Facilities are Opened to Public


Singapore: Some 149 defibrillators will be available at school playing fields and sports halls during weekends in case members of the public using the facilities suffer a heart attack. The potentially life-saving move is aimed at those who take advantage of the Singapore Sports Council's (SSC) Dual Use Scheme, under which they can use these spaces for sports such as football, badminton and basketball for free or for a small fee.The automated external defibrillators (AEDs), designed to be more user-friendly, will be available from next month at 89 fields and 60 indoor halls. Singapore: SGH Honours Those who Use CPR to Save Cardiac Arrest Victims


Singapore: Mr Kelvin Lee was participating in a treasure hunt with some friends on Sentosaisland in June last year when he suddenly collapsed while crossing the road. His friends thought he was playing a prank on them but when he did not respond, they panicked. Sentosa beach patrol officer Muhammad Yazid, 28, who was on duty, rushed over to administer cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and use the automated external defibrillator (AED). By the time an ambulance arrived, the 32-year-old had regained a normal heartbeat.
