China: Rescue Accelerates as Major Aftershock Hits Sichuan Quake Zone


Rescuers are racing against time to save those injured after a series of quakes in the Tibetan region in southwest China\'s Sichuan Province since 22 November.The new injuries brought the number of the wounded following a 6.3-magnitude earthquake on 22 November afternoon to 68.\r\nA total of 59 injured are now being treated in the hospital, among whom two patients are still critical, according to the provincial health and family planning committee.

China: Xiamen Faces Severe Shortage of Ambulances


Yang Shuyu, the director of the Xiamen Health and Family Planning Commission, recently raised the issue of a severe ambulance shortage during a Xiamen government meeting, which drew Xiamen Mayor Liu Keqing’s attention. The mayor subsequently requested that the relevantdepartments solve the problem as soon as possible. \r\nAccording to the report, Xiamen’s ambulances were dispatched more than 58,000 times from January to November in 2014, averaging over 200 calls per day, with many ambulances having to drive a dozen times in one day. China: Beijing Addresses Emergency Service Dilemma


The Beijing Municipal Commission of Health and Family Planning (BMCHFP) is now conducting research on how to increase the efficiency of emergency services, the Beijing News reported. They hope to figure out a way for hospitals to systematically rate the seriousness of a patient\'s condition so that critically-ill patients can be treated first.\r\n\"During the past decade, emergency resources have not increased much, but the need for emergency services has increased tenfold,\" said ZhongDongbo, a spokesman for the BMCHFP.

China: New Trauma Evaluation System Leads to Quicker Treatment


Shanghai: The Songjiang District Medical Emergency Center is the first in the city to establish a pre-hospital trauma evaluation system, officials told a hospital development forum 29 January. The system was developed in cooperation with hospitals in its region and will ensure emergency patients are treated quicker and more effectively.\r\nUnder the system, ambulance doctors can contact hospitals about a patient’s medical history and the hospital headquarters can call appropriate doctors to the emergency ward in time. Previously, experts were not called until emergency doctors had checked a patient.

China: Beijing to Unify Ambulance Schedule


The Beijing Municipal Commission of Health and Family Planning announced that Beijing will start using a unified, citywide scheduling system for ambulances by the end of June, the Beijing Morning Post reported. The Beijing Emergency Medical Center will manage the schedules for all ambulances to shorten response time after a 120 medical emergency call is made, and to better deploy medical resources by breaking the thresholds between different districts and counties. Secondary scheduling in each district and county will be cancelled.
