India: Red Cross to Train 2,500 Volunteers for Kumbh Mela


Nashik: The Indian Red Cross Society's Nashik district branch will train nearly 2,500 volunteers to deal with emergencies such as drowning, electrical shock, accidental injuries, suffocation and poisoning during the Simhastha Kumbh mela that will take place in Nashik in 2015. Office bearers of the society, including Aniruddha Dharmadhikari, Major P M Bhagat (veteran),Sunil Aundhkar and Anand Bhattad, have worked out a plan, which is being discussed with the district collector and city police commissioner.

India: Chandrapur's Youths Take-up Fight for Free Ambulance Service


Nagpur: The central government mandated emergency ambulance service was first started in Andhra Pradesh in 2005 and has been implemented in many other states thereafter. Maharashtra has started process to launch the service in various cities in a phase-wise manner. However, a group of youngsters from Chandrapur have submitted a memorandum to the collector warning that if the service was not started in the district by May 1, they would launch an agitation. India: Commissioner of Police for Education on Evacuating Accident Victims


Visakhapatnam: Commissioner of Police B. Shivadhar Reddy, called for educating people on how to extend first-aid and evacuate the accident victim to the nearby hospital without wasting valuable time. “Mishandling leads to death or disability of the patients in most cases. Hence, immediate rescue of the victim to the nearby hospital during first few minutes known as golden moments is very important,” he said at a meeting organised here to distribute active wheelchairs to empower people suffering from spinal cord injuries and orthopaedic disabilities.

India: New Ambulance Service for Better Maternal Emergency Care: UP


Lucknow: With the aim of reducing maternal mortality ratio (MMR) in Uttar Pradesh, the health and family welfare department is working to launch a dedicated ambulance service. The ambulance network will comprise 1000 vehicles equipped to handle pregnancy related emergencies, including assisted child birth.The ambulance network will function on the pattern of 108 services. A call centre will be the core of the facility that will be extended under the National Rural Health Mission through Janani Suraksha Yojana (JSY) and Janani Shishu Suraksha Karyakram (JSSK) schemes. India: Medicare on the Move for Newborns in Tirupattur- Tamil Nadu


Tirupattur: The Specialised Newborn Care Units (SNCUs) in the State would get uniquely designed ambulances with life saving equipment to provide critical care to newborns. In the first phase, on April 05, Friday, the SNCUs in the Government Hospitals at Tirupattur, Chengalpattu, Madurai and the Institute of Child Health (ICH) in Chennai were provided with an ambulance each.
