Pakistan: Significant Number of Snakebite Cases Being Reported


Rawalpindi: The snakebite cases in the region are alarmingly on the rise at least for the last 3 weeks while the healthcare facilities in public sector in twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad received over 120 snakebite victims in last two months. Almost all reported cases of snakebites in need of anti-snake venom serum (ASV) were given serum at the healthcare facilities including Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) and allied hospitals in Rawalpindi however at least four of the reported cases died of bleeding and or shock in result of snakebites. Pakistan: SIUT Sets-up Emergency Relief Medical Centre


Karachi: The Sindh Institute of Urology and Transplantation (SIUT) has set up a flood emergency relief medical centre at its Chhablani Medical Centre Sukkur, where doctors, nursing and paramedical staff are providing services round-the-clock considering the flood havoc triggered by the recent torrential rains. The Sukkur-based SIUT centre due to its strategic geographical location is providing free medical services to the people not only of Sindh but also from lower Punjab and Balochistan.

Pakistan: Training to Enhance Skills of Rescuers Held


Rawalpindi: The Punjab Emergency Service, 'Rescue 1122', Rawalpindi, started training of rescue staff regarding rescue from height and depth on the directions of 'Rescue 1122' Director General Dr. RizwanNaseer. The purpose of the training course is to enhance professional skills of operational staff to conduct quick rescue operation from high-rise building in case of any emergency or disaster in the Rawalpindi district. Pakistan: Pakistan Asked to Improve Disaster Management


Islamabad: A World Bank policy note has asked the government to improve the national disaster management fund and create city emergency centers in major urban centers. The policy note also recommends establishing linkages between city emergency centers and current disaster management structures at federal, provincial and district levels to ensure timely response in case of any natural disasters such as floods, earthquake, excess rainfalls, cyclones, tsunamis etc.
