Malaysia: SGH's A&E Dept. to be Fully Functional by End of the Week


Kuching: Efforts are underway to remove the smell of smoke at Sarawak General Hospital (SGH)’s Accident and Emergency Department (A&E Department) to enable it to be fully functional by the end of this week. SGH director Dr Abdul Rahim Abdullah said his office was trying its best to get the A&E Department up and running at full steam quickly. Malaysia: St John's Ambulance Ready to play its Role


Sibu: St John’s Ambulance Malaysia (SJAM) has expressed readiness to enhance the ambulance service of government hospitals, including Sibu Hospital. Its commander-in-chief Dato Dr Low Bin Tick said SJAM had extended such service to Bintulu Hospital. He said the effort would open up the opportunity for local youths to join SJAM as volunteers. Low was speaking at the commissioning of a new wing of SJAM’s Haemodialysis Centre here on February 27.

Malaysia: Normah Holds Health Awareness Programme, Free CPR Training


Kuching: A health awareness programme that centred on a blood donation drive was held at Normah Medical Specialist Centre in conjunction with the International Women’s Day celebration on March 08. A free Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) education was also made available by the hospital staff.

Malaysia: Terengganu JPAM Launches MERS 999 to Improve Quality of Service


Kuala Terengganu: The Terengganu Civil Defence Department (JPAM) on April 01 launched its emergency call service through the Malaysia Emergency Response Services (MERS) 999 in a bid to improve its quality of service for the people. Its director, Lt Col Che Adam A. Rahman said the department had been given credential by the Communication and Multimedia Ministry to carry out MERS 999 operations starting April 01."At present, we have nine staff to answer the emergency calls and we have requested to have between 12 to 16 other staff to work on shifts in our MERS 999 room so that they can provide a more effective and efficient service.” He

Malaysia: Patient Too Heavy for Ambulance Transfer


The Fire and Rescue Department had to be called in to help transfer an overweight patient from the Banting Hospital to the Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital in Klang, reported Berita Harian. According to the daily, the 200 kg patient, Norfaizah Mohamad Rashid, 31, had to be transferred because she was suffering from a serious lung problem. Five people, including firemen from the Putrajaya station, loaded the patient onto a 5-tonne lorry because her weight made it impossible for her to be transported on a normal ambulance.
