Philippines: Laoag Hospital Now on Wheels


Laoag City: The Laoag City General Hospital is now on wheels with the recent purchase of a P10 million-worth mobile clinic. The “Laoag City General Hospital on Wheels” will provide services ranging from x-ray, ultrasound, complete blood chemistry (CBC), including medical and dental services.  The mobile clinic is equipped with life-saving devices such as X-ray machine, electrocardiogram (ECG) machine and hospital bed.

Philippines: Caraga RDRRMC Discusses Responsibilities, in Incident Command System (ICS)


The Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (RDRRMC) in Caraga upgraded its training in Incident Command System (ICS) through participating in a 5-day Integrated Planning Course held at Pietros Square.  The course contains the duties and responsibilities of the planning section chief (PSC), one of the general staff under the incident commander (IC).  The Office of Civil Defense (OCD) Caraga led the activity through Regional Director Liza Mazo, chairperson of the region’s RDRRMC. Philippines: First-aid Protocols Required of Hotels?


We were guests at a hotel in Quezon City, for my sister’s wedding preparations when my mother suffered a heart attack and fell unconscious. But the hotel was not able to provide her with first aid as there was no standby doctor, and the nurse on duty obviously did not know what to do. She did not know basic life support and just kept on taking Mama’s blood pressure even though she was already unconscious. She did not even bother to check Mama’s pulse when she was rushed to the hospital in one of the secondary sponsor’s vehicle. Philippines: DILG declares June 10-16 Disaster Preparedness Week


Manila: With the onset of the rainy season, the Department of the Interior and Local Government has declared June 10-16 as Disaster Preparedness Week.  An estimated 60,000 of these informal settler-families (ISF) are scheduled to move to several on-site, near-site and in-city relocation communities over the next three years, or an average of 20,000 ISF per year before President Aquino's term expires in June 2016.  In the regional level, the DILG will conduct disaster preparedness exercises for ISF communities such as emergency drills, simultaneous review of contingency plans of cities and municipalities, and their waste management
