JIPMER Launches Emergency Service

Puducherry: The Jawaharlal Institute of Post graduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER) announced the setting up of a 24/7 helpline in Casualty for patients requiring emergency tele-medical services.

\r\n
A team of senior and junior doctors will be given a smartphone to attend to calls, said a press release from Jipmer. The doctor on duty will guide the patient on immediate first aid through the telephone. If the patient’s distress is relieved, then he or she may be asked to come to the outpatient department concerned as advised by the Casualty doctor. If not, the patient will be advised to reach the Casualty as soon as possible, with information on transportation, and where to report at Jipmer, and formalities and records to be brought. If the patient is far away, the doctor will guide him or her to the nearest hospital. Details about the patient will be recorded.
