Kuala Lumpur: The Ministry of Health (MOH) will hire more emergency medicine specialists to treat accident victims and address the shortage of medical specialists at government hospitals. Deputy Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Hilmi Yahaya said that the hiring of more emergency medicine specialists was necessary as Malaysia recorded high number of road accidents annually.
"Malaysia has more than 120 emergency medicine specialists, all of whom are graduates of ‘Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia’ (UKM), ‘Universiti Malaya’ (UM) and ‘Universiti Sains Malaysia’ (USM). "This number is still low and inadequate to treat the high number of road accident victims nationwide," he told a press conference after opening the 3rd International Clinical Conference of Emergency Medicine 2013" (ICCEM 2013) at Putra World Trade Centre (PWTC) here May 28 Tuesday.
