Singapore: The Singapore Red Cross (SRC) recognised its most committed volunteers on May 22 Wednesday.The inaugural Singapore Red Cross Awards ceremony was presided over by the society's patron,President Tony Tan Keng Yam.All the volunteers who were recognised have consistently put in years or even decades of service, and made their mark through local and international disaster response, fundraising, or blood donation.
Dr Tan toured a showcase of the best of voluntary services rendered by the Red Cross.Those featured included ‘First Aider on Wheels', a team that patrols parts of East Coast Park, and TransportAid, a transport service which takes the elderly and the underprivileged to and from medical appointments.
The SRC Awards ceremony also commemorates the World Red Cross day and the 150th anniversary of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement. |
