RTA Fixes Ambulance Fares to Check Over-charging

Nagpur: In an effort to keep a check on private and NGO-run ambulance services from charging exorbitant rates, the Regional Transport Authority (RTA) has fixed fares for hiring ambulances in the city and outside corporation limits. The move follows a recent directive by the state transport commissioner to this effect.

As per the newly-fixed tariff, hiring a Maruti Omni ambulance would cost Rs 400 for 0-25 km. For the same distance, a Tata Sumo ambulance would cost Rs 450, Winger ambulance Rs 500 and Tempo Traveller Rs 600.The RTA has also allowed increasing charges for air-conditioned ambulances by 10% of the fares declared by it. The fares have been fixed in consultation with the committee of RTA, said deputy RTO Vijay Chavhan.
