Disaster management: Thiruvananthapuram Gears Up to Put Plan-B in Place

Thiruvananthapuram: The summer showers and the damage trail it left have served as an eye-opener for the city corporation. The civic body has submitted a detailed project proposal worth Rs 25 lakh to the district planning committee (DPC) specifically for disaster management.

The corporation will also set up an Incident Response System (IRS) under the United Nations Development Programme through the city disaster management cell.

35-member team comprising select officials from the district administration, directorate of health services, state disaster response force, police, fire and rescue services, KWA and PWD will be trained as part of IRS. The city corporation will include engineering, revenue and health officials as part of the response team.
