Guwahati: The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has urged the people of Assam to take part in an earthquake awareness programme organized by it to learn about the measures to be taken during a major earthquake in the northeast states. As part of the 'M 8.7 Shillong 1897 Earthquake Scenario: NE Multi-State Preparedness Campaign' organized by NDMA, a mega mock exercise will be conducted to increase awareness.
"A mock exercise is scheduled for March 10 and 13 in eight NE states and we want more people to know about the consequences of an earthquake, things to be done to overcome the crisis early. This effort will increase awareness. It will help us learn about what more needs to be done to meet the need in the hour of emergency," said T Nanda Kumar, member of NDMA. |
