Docs to Tender Mass Resignation to Koirala, Not to Run Even Emergency Ward

Kathmandu: Agitating doctors at the Trbhuvan University Teaching Hospital (TUTH) have decided to tender mass resignation to Prime Minister-elect Sushil Koirala in support of Dr Govinda KC, who is on a fast-unto-death since February 8 Saturday. As per the statute of the Tribhuvan University, the prime minister of the country is the ex officio chancellor of the varsity.

His other demands are reinstatement of former IoM dean Prakash Sayami, the appointment of a new dean on the basis of seniority, and stern action against IOM officials found guilty by an earlier investigation. He also demanded establishment of government medical colleges in rural areas of the country.

"This time they, too, have formally decided not to run any services and tend to patients even from the emergency ward," he added. He further said that doctors will serve patients already admitted at hospital on humanitarian ground.
