Kochi Action for Road Safety and Medical Aid to the Rescue of Accident Victims in Kochi

Kochi: Citizens can now heave a sigh of relief since a new initiative is being launched to rush accident victims to hospitals in Kochi. District administration and motor vehicles department (MVD) will join hands to form Kochi Action for Road Safety and Medical Aid (KARMA), a charitable society, for this purpose. Auto drivers have been roped in as volunteers and those injured in accidents will receive immediate treatment at hospitals even if they don't have money.

The district collector will convene a meeting of all stakeholders on December 13 Friday to discuss the launch date and representatives of MVD, police, health department, Indian Medical Association, Red Cross and district productivity council will fine tune the proposed plan of action.

The rescuer need not worry about treatment and billing. Auto drivers would be apt since they are on road almost all hours of the day," said Ernakulum RTO B J Antony, adding that police will verify the antecedents of selected auto drivers.
