Bangalore: There's some hope for ambulances stuck at traffic signals and gridlocks.
In a first of its kind in the country, Bangalore traffic police are installing software which turns traffic signals from red to green for ambulances and emergency vehicles including fire tenders. As a pilot project, four ambulances and four traffic signals in the Central Business District have been fitted with software developed by Opticom Emergency Vehicle Traffic Pre-emption Systems, USA. This will be extended to other parts of city as well as ambulances of government and recognized hospitals, additional commissioner of police (traffic) B Dayananda told TOI.
