Last year, the Fire and Rescue Department received over 80,000 emergency calls.
\r\nIn only 44 percent of the cases did they manage to arrive at the scene within 10-minutes, which is the target which the department has set. Deputy director-general (Operations) Datuk Soiman Jahid said that there were many obstacles to firemen achieving their 10-minute maximum response time, in order to ensure there was minimal risk in terms of loss of lives or property. Firemen are often hampered from reaching the 10-minute response target owing to varying reasons. |
