Japan will designate hospitals within 30 kilometers of nuclear power stations as hub medical institutions to treat radiation-exposed patients in the event of accidents at such plants, according to a draft of revised nuclear disaster response guidelines. \r\nThe draft, approved by the Nuclear Regulation Authority on Wednesday(JUNE 24), is designed to beef up the emergency medical system based on lessons learned from the triple reactor meltdown at Tokyo Electric Power Co.’s Fukushima No. 1 nuclear power plant, which was damaged in the March 2011 earthquake and tsunami. |
