The decision to set up the centre was taken in a meeting of the National Disaster Management Council on May 06. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina chaired the meeting. Her Press Secretary AKM Shameem Chowdhuri said the centre will be set up in a building that can tolerate quakes.
It would be on the highway near the airport so that important persons can reach it quickly, he said. The operations during and after a disaster will be conducted, coordinated and observed from the centre, he said. |
